About the cover:  The cover shows the Great Falls of the Passaic River, Paterson, New Jersey.  Harnessed by Alexander Hamilton following a design by Pierre Charles L’Enfant, the falls powered one of American’s first large industrial developments.  Sometimes exceeding 25,000 cubic feet per second at flood stage, the falls are the second largest (by volume) east of the Mississippi.  At Great Falls, the Jurassic Orange Mountain Basalt forms the precipice.  The Passaic River cuts through the escarpment of the Watchung Mountains, on which the Montclair University campus is situated.
