2012 Annual Meeting Report
The 2012 Middle States Division Annual Conference was held on November 2-3 at Shippensburg University. Although the wind and rain in south-central Pennsylvania was tremendous as the eye of Hurricane Sandy passed directly over Shippensburg, we escaped without any significant damage. Unfortunately, many of our colleagues along the eastern seaboard were not so fortunate. The conference had 118 registrants, but Sandy kept approximately 20% of the registrants from attending. Our thoughts are with those who suffered losses due to the storm. For those registrants who were able to attend, we had 16 paper sessions with 57 papers and a poster session with 8 posters.
The “Bobcats”, with representatives from SUNY New Paltz, SUNY Oneonta, and Penn State, won the GeoBowl and the six students with the top individual point scores will be partially funded to attend the World GeoBowl at the AAG National Meeting in Los Angeles. The ‘Afterburn’ faculty-student gathering at the ShipWreck Tavern was a rousing success, as was the Saturday afternoon field trip to the Gettysburg National Battlefield. We look forward to seeing everyone at the 2013 meeting in Buffalo, NY, and want to thank Kelly Frothingham (Buffalo State) in advance for organizing our next conference!
